Medics Away Ltd is a new company offering a new and exciting
service for medical students.
As a company run by a doctor and in consultation with universities,
we know what is required to arrange successful medical
student electives. We are also aware of your concerns.
Our aim is to do the hard work for you, so that you can concentrate
on enjoying the experience of working abroad.
When taking your elective with Medics Away, you can expect:
- To be attached to and working within an overseas hospital
that has been visited and vetted by a British doctor to ensure
that it is suitable for British medical students. We guarantee
that you will be welcome and will receive good support and teaching
during your time there.
- To be part of a small group of students also taking their
elective in the same location (Max 4)
- To be accommodated in a clean and secure environment, situated
near the place of work, during the hospital phase of the elective.
- To be furnished with flights and transfers from the host country's
airport to the hospital and back.
- To be given expert vaccination and visa advice as well as
appropriate travel insurance cover.
- To be taken on a Discovery
Trip as part of the elective package. This will usually
last about two weeks and aims to give students the opportunity
to see and experience the host country and its culture away
from the hospital environment.
- To have access to a fully available local representative who
will be able to facilitate reliable contact between students,
their parents and the universities. If problems emerge, either
abroad or at home, they can be dealt with swiftly and efficiently
with the support of the local representatives.
- To take part in a dedicated medical
education program both before and during the elective.
A workshop before departure will be tailored to brief students
on the kind of problems they will be dealing with and teaching
throughout the elective will be approved by and complimentary
to the university syllabus.
